Yvonne Watson Brathwaite was elected to the California State Legislature from the 63rd Assembly District in 1966. She is Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Urban Development and Housing and serves as a member on the Health, Criminal Justice and Finance and Insurance Committees. Assemblywoman Brathwaite is also a member of the Executive Board of the YMCA and the Board of Directors of Morningside Hospital. She serves on the Advisory Commission to the U.S. Small Business Administration and was a panelist on the White House Conference on Food, Nutrition and Health. Ms. Brathwaite is also a consultant to the National Institute of Mental Health of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. She has been a practicing attorney for the last decade, during which time she served as a Deputy Corporation Commissioner, a Hearing Officer for the Police Commission and as an attorney on the staff of the McCone Commission.
