STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics
The IOP Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Program emphasizes the interdisciplinary study of politics. In a time of rapid scientific and political change, STEAM aims to address modern social issues through intelligent, community-based projects. Each semester’s STEAM cohort centers its work around partnerships with individuals and organizations serving the Harvard, Cambridge, and greater Boston communities, constructing projects to fulfill specific community needs with an emphasis on service and advocacy. Each project will culminate in a tangible deliverable and will allow students to build close relationships with mentors around the Harvard and Boston communities and contribute to cutting-edge research. Past projects have included presentations at the White House, conducting surveys on COVID-19 vaccination hesitation in local communities, and studying racial disparities in voter turnout.
