STUDY GROUP THEME: Trump Foreign Policy Success: What the Administration Got Right

Foreign policy changed dramatically during the Presidency of Donald Trump. Which aspects of that foreign policy should endure?  Which should be re-evaluated? IOP Fellow Bonnie Glick’s study groups will examine some of the policy positions of the Trump Administration and the thinking behind what went into the American responses.

STUDY GROUP #1:  Trump Foreign Policy: A Retrospective Look. We will start with a brief introduction of Bonnie Glick and how she came to her role, then lost it, as Deputy Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development. Then we will move into a broad overview of some of the pressing foreign policy issues that faced the Trump Administration and a discussion of decisions and decision makers. Was there new ground broken? Was there consensus, if so, when? Were there controversies, if so, how were they addressed?  An insider’s look at policies and decision making with an understanding of the unique make-up of the Trump national security team.
