FALL FELLOWS

Former U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda L. Solis and two-term Los Angeles Mayor
Antonio Villaraigosa to Serve as Visiting Fellows

Cambridge, MA – Harvard’s Institute of Politics, located at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, today announced the selection of an experienced group of individuals for Resident and Visiting Fellowships this fall.  Over the course of an academic semester, Resident Fellows interact with students, participate in the intellectual life of the Harvard community and lead weekly study groups on a wide variety of issue areas.  Visiting Fellows join the Institute for a shorter period and maximize their time meeting with students, faculty and Harvard research center staff.  More information is available at http://hvrd.me/15XtlQI.

"We are looking forward to hosting an accomplished group of Resident and Visiting Fellows this fall," said Harvard's Institute of Politics Director Trey Grayson. "Our fall Fellows class has impressive experience in politics and campaigns, journalism, business, technology, and service at the highest levels of city, state and federal government – including in the U.S. Senate and the President’s cabinet.  We are confident this group will create strong interest and inspire the leaders of tomorrow here at Harvard."

The following Resident Fellows will join the Institute for the fall semester and lead weekly study groups on a range of topics:

• Mo Cowan, U.S. Senator (D-MA; Feb. 2013-July 2013); former senior advisor, chief of staff and chief legal counsel to Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick

• Ginny Hunt, strategy principal, Google; founder, Google’s public sector product and engineering team

• Sasha Issenberg, columnist, Slate; Washington correspondent and former Americas editor, Monocle; author of The Victory Lab: The Secret Science of Winning Campaigns and The Sushi Economy: Globalization and the Making of a Modern Delicacy

• Karen Mills, administrator, U.S. Small Business Administration (2009-present); member, President Obama’s cabinet and economic leadership team

• Beth Myers, advisor, Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign; campaign manager, Mitt Romney’s 2008 presidential campaign; chief of staff, Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney (2002-06)

• Ana Navarro, political commentator, CNN/CNN Español; National Hispanic co-chair, Jon Huntsman’s 2012 presidential campaign; Hispanic Advisory Council national co-chair and national surrogate, John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign

In addition, the Institute is pleased to host Hilda L. Solis, former U.S. Labor Secretary (2009-13) and U.S. Representative (CA-32^nd, D; 2001-09) and Antonio Villaraigosa, two-term mayor of Los Angeles (2005-13) as Visiting Fellows.  Visiting Fellows traditionally meet with student groups; lead discussion groups on topical issues and their experiences in public and political service; and participate in public policy classes with students and Harvard University faculty.   

The Fellows program is central to the Institute’s dual commitment to encourage student interest in public life and to increase interaction between the academic and political communities.
