A Message from IOP Interim Director Setti Warren
First, I’d like to thank Mark Gearan for his exceptional service. It was a pleasure to work by his side and his commitment to students and public service is unmatched.
As I assume the role of interim director I am honored to have the opportunity to lead this incredibly important institution.
Throughout my career I’ve worked in Washington DC at the White House, run the New England region of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, served as the deputy state director for United States Senator John Kerry, and was elected to two four-year terms as the mayor of Newton, MA. I’m also an Iraq War veteran and served in the US Navy Reserves for nine years. While all of those assignments were incredibly challenging, dangerous, and inspiring, my new assignment is the most unique and exciting given the nature of the times we live in, as well as the endless possibilities in front of the next generation of leaders I’ll have the chance to work with.
As the academic year opens, I look forward to seeing you at the IOP and to hearing your ideas, thoughts or suggestion on how we can meet the moment in today’s political context and inspire our students to lead in public service and politics.
