Meet our Summer 2024 cohort of our Director's Internship Program! Click below to learn more about each student, their internship placement, plus their academic interests and future plans.

The Director's Internship is a signature program of the IOP. Since 1995, the IOP has partnered with high-profile organizations and elected officials around the world to provide substantive, career-oriented summer internships for undergraduate students interested in politics, government, and public service.

Aaryan Rawal
Human Rights Campaign

Aaryan Rawal is currently a sophomore at Harvard College, where they study American Government and Ethnicity, Migration, and Rights (EMR). Born and raised in Virginia, Aaryan constantly experienced schools that flattened his Queer Asian identity, driving him to become a fierce advocate for systems that embrace the authenticity of all people. He first got his start in organizing by mobilizing young people in the gun violence prevention movement. Since then, he has founded the largest student-led LGBTQIA+ rights organization in Virginia, the Pride Liberation Project, mobilizing thousands of students in local and state government, and has helped advance Asian American representation in education.

In college, Aaryan studies policy solutions that empower all to participate in democratic processes and challenge centuries of marginalization. They also are active in their campus LGBTQIA+ community, where they intern for the Queer resource center and lead the Queer people of color affinity group. Guided by his Asian Queer heritage, Aaryan hopes to generate innovative equity policy in state legislatures after college. Outside of organizing, Aaryan loves snuggling with furry dogs, exploring bakeries and cafes, and finding new cozy reading spots.

Aditi Ambravan
The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence

Aditi Ambravan is a rising junior at Harvard College studying Social Studies and Chinese. This summer, she is excited to be a part of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence’s internship team. She is also a competing member of the Harvard Mock Trial Association and the Director of Research for the Harvard Public Opinion Project (HPOP). She is passionate about legal advocacy, public opinion polling, and hiking.

Alae Aboussad
Prolepsis Institute

Alae Aboussad will be interning at the Prolepsis Institute in Greece this summer. She is currently a sophomore at Harvard, studying Applied Math on the Psychology track, with a secondary in Global Health and Health Policy. She was born and raised in Morocco, which is where her interest in Global Health and community service started. On campus, she is mostly involved with the Harvard Square Homeless Shelter and cultural organizing for Arab students.

Alex Heuss
With Honor

Alex Heuss is a rising junior from Minnesota studying Government on the Data Science track with a secondary in Computer Science. She is president of Harvard Undergraduates for Bipartisan Solutions, publicity manager for the Harvard-Radcliffe Collegium Musicum, and Associate Technology Director for the Harvard Political Review. Her areas of academic interest are partisanship, polarization, and technology policy and ethics.

Amiya Tiwari
New York City Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice

Amiya Tiwari (she/her) is a sophomore at Harvard studying Social Studies with a secondary in Religion. She lives in Lowell House, and is originally from Columbus, Ohio. On campus, she chairs the Politics of Race and Ethnicity program and am a member of the Student Advisory Committee at the Institute of Politics. She is also involved with Harvard Dharma, Harvard South Asian Association, and Harvard Ghungroo, and she conducts research at the Berkman Klein Center. Her academic interests include the American criminal justice system, alternative sentencing pathways, punishment philosophy, and restorative justice.

She is thrilled to be working with the New York City Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice this summer to learn from experts in harm reduction through community-centered reform. In her free time, she loves to listen to podcasts, try new restaurants, work out, and spend time with family and friends. She is very excited to be part of the IOP’s Summer of Service program!

Angela Zhang
The Wight Foundation (Hometown Director's Internship)

This summer, Angela Zhang '27 will be working at The Wight Foundation as a Business Operations and Finance Intern. Founded in 1986 by New Jersey businessman and real estate entrepreneur Russell B. Wight, Jr., the Foundation identifies and assists underserved students in the Greater Newark Area, providing transformative opportunities for academic success and personal development in college preparatory boarding school environments. Having attended Phillips Exeter Academy for high school, Angela is excited to increase access to such opportunities by contributing to the expansion and management of the Foundation's finances, recruitment and outreach, professional partnerships, and educational programming.

In her free time, Angela sings jazz acapella with The Radcliffe Pitches, explores start-ups with Harvard Undergraduate Capital Partners, dances, and attempts to train for triathlons.

Anjali Krishnamurti
Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative - City of Newark

Anjali Krishnamurti is a rising sophomore at Harvard College thinking about studying Government or Social Studies. On campus, she is the Director of Ideation for the JFK Jr. Forum and leads a team of undergraduate policy researchers at the Institute of Politics. She is also an Associate Editor for the Harvard Undergraduate Law Review.

Back at home, Anjali runs a youth-led, grassroots organization that takes action to lower the voting age to sixteen in local and school board elections. Anjali is passionate about civil rights and plans on pursuing a career in law and politics after graduating.

Anoushka Chander
Democratic Women's Caucus

Anoushka Chander is a junior at Harvard College from Washington, D.C. studying Social Studies and African American Studies with a focus on women's rights, racial justice, and the law. At Harvard, she runs the Future Leaders in Public Service Conference for public service-minded high school students, hosts speakers at the Institute of Politics as a member of the JFK Jr. Forum Committee, and is the lead singer in the all-junior pop/rock band Charles Revival.

Anoushka works as an Assistant Producer and intern at Ms. Studios at Ms. Magazine, where she has produced a podcast on the child welfare system. She has published articles in Ms. and in the Harvard Undergraduate Law Review. Anoushka interned on Capitol Hill for Congressman Jamie Raskin and served low-income Black mothers seeking public benefits as an intern with the Georgetown Health Justice Alliance. She is a trained lobbyist for voting rights, gun violence prevention, and racial justice.

Anoushka plans to become a lawyer dedicated to protecting mothers of color through the law.

Aram Bagdasarian
Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office

Aram Bagdasarian is a rising sophomore at Harvard College from Armenia. He is honored to be a recipient of the IOP Director's Internship to intern at the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office. The internship will provide him the chance to deepen my knowledge and explore my interest in public service and governmental work. He looks forward to contributing to meaningful work this summer and is eager to take this next step in my journey toward making a positive impact in the world.

Ari Kohn
American Enterprise Institute

Ari Kohn is a sophomore in Leverett House concentrating in Social Studies, with a focus on International Political Economy. She is particularly interested in studying the dynamics between capitalism and democracy around the world, and the dangers facing society when ideals and interests do not align. She is an undergraduate fellow in the Safra Center of Ethics, where she investigates how the ethical character of countries are developed and sustained. Outside of class, Ari is the student co-Chair of Intellectual Vitality initiatives, helping to foster civil discourse and academic freedom among undergraduates. She enjoys conducting and composing for ensembles, and sings in the Radcliffe Choral Society. Ari is a teaching fellow in the Statistics department and serves as the Deputy Chair of the IOP’s Women’s Initiative in Leadership.

Avi Agarwal

Avi Agarwal is a first-year student from Peoria, Arizona. He plans on concentrating in Government and Economics with a secondary in Computer Science. Having previously worked on a congressional campaign, Avi is excited to work at Trilogy, blending his interest in consulting and politics with his desire to help create meaningful change. He is involved with the Behvorial Strategy Group, Harvard Political Review, the South Asian Association, and The Harvard Undergraduate Research Journal. Outside of class, Avi likes experimenting with new baking recipes.

Blake Chen
Chambers of Justice John D. Couriel of the Florida Supreme Court

In Summer 2024, Blake Chen will work as a judicial intern for Justice John D. Couriel of the Florida Supreme Court. A chemistry concentrator and Air Force ROTC cadet, Blake is interested in history, politics, and public policy. He admires the statesmanship of Lincoln and Coolidge.

Brian Jeon is a first-year student at Harvard studying Economics. He is passionate about social impact, the law, and the environment. Outside of class, he loves to play and watch soccer.

Caroline Curran
Rights Behind Bars

Caroline Curran is a rising senior in Adams House from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She studies government with a language citation in Spanish. At school, Caroline enjoys volunteering for a local homeless shelter and food pantry. She previously interned in the ABC News Political Unit, where she wrote articles on redistricting, the presidential election, and the Supreme Court. This summer, Caroline is excited to be an intern for Rights Behind Bars in Washington, D.C. to support the rights of individuals who are incarcerated.

Caroline Gage
Global Situation Room

Caroline Gage is a rising senior at Harvard College concentrating in Social Studies with a focus on Italian politics. Outside of the classroom, Caroline is a staff writer and former comp director for the sports section of The Crimson and an undergraduate fellow at Harvard's Bok Center for Teaching and Learning. She will join the Global Situation Room as an intern this summer.

Caroline Hsu
Transportation Security Administration - Department of Homeland Security

Caroline Hsu is a sophomore from Long Island, New York studying Economics with a Statistics secondary and Chinese language citation. On campus, she covers local businesses for The Crimson as a senior news reporter and serves on the course staff for Harvard's introductory economics sequence. She has been an intern for a juvenile justice advocacy non-profit for the past year, where she is currently analyzing data on congregate care in Massachusetts and researching links to poverty rates. When not spending more time finding the perfect music playlist to study to than actually studying, Caroline enjoys running along the Charles River, shopping at Costco, and playing movie soundtracks on the piano. This will be her first summer in Washington, D.C., and she is excited to be interning at the Department of Homeland Security with the Transportation Security Administration!

Carolyn Lau

Carolyn Lau is a first-year student from Long Island, New York studying Economics and Government at Harvard University. Within IOP, she is a part of the Criminal Justice Public Policy Team and is so excited to have the opportunity to intern with the District Attorney's Office of Allegheny this summer! At Harvard, she is also a part of the Harvard Women in Law Association, Harvard College Consulting Group, Smart Women Securities, and Harvard Financial Analysts Club. In her free time, she enjoys playing the flute with the Harvard Radcliffe Orchestra, visiting new local shops and restaurants, and going on runs when it's sunny out.

Christopher Hidalgo
The Office of the Governor of the State of Hawai'i

Christopher Hidalgo is a Junior at Harvard College studying Sociology and Government. He is originally from New York City and the Dominican Republic. On campus, Christopher is active in House life as Co-Chair of Cabot House, First-Generation and Low-Income student spaces, and in public service as one of the directors of Y2Y Harvard Square, the first completely student-run youth homeless shelter. He is incredibly excited to work with the Office of the Governor of the State of Hawai'i this summer to tackle homelessness and the numerous factors that affect unhoused people.

Conner Huey
Purpose. Dignity. Action.

Conner Huey is a rising senior at Harvard University studying Government and History with a secondary in European History, Politics, and Societies. Born and raised in a rural working-class Navy town in the Pacific Northwest, Conner is committed to a public service career at the forefront of evidence-based welfare policymaking to strengthen democratic citizenship in the United States. Conner has conducted research on the American welfare state and has served as a research assistant with the Democratic Knowledge Project at Harvard University. Outside Harvard, Conner currently serves as a Co-Chair for the America 250 Congressional Commission Young Leaders Advisory Council and as an International Ambassador for the Boy Scouts of America. A cadet in the Army ROTC, Conner has interned for all three federal branches of government as a White House Intern with the Council on Environmental Quality, a U.S. House of Representatives intern with his U.S. Representative Derek Kilmer (WA-06), and most recently as an intern for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Additionally, Conner is active in Democratic Party politics, having served as the Campaign Manager for his State Senator since 2020 and led the Young Democrats of America International Affairs Committee from 2021 to 2023. After graduation, Conner plans to earn a graduate degree in social policy before pursuing a career in public service through elected office in Washington State and as an officer in the United States Army Reserves.

Conor Mannion
Government Accountability Project

Conor Mannion is a first-year at Harvard College where he hopes to concentrate in economics and computer science with a secondary in government. Outside of his courses, he is a midshipman, fourth class, in the Boston Old Ironsides Naval ROTC battalion out of MIT. He also plays on the men's rugby team and conducts economics research for the Institute of Politics Policy Program. Hailing from Milton, MA, he is a proud Boston sports fan and can often be found listening to or playing music.

Daniel Cabrera is a proud member of the Harvard Class of 2027. Currently, he is gearing up to pursue a double concentration in Government and History & Literature, with a focus on Latin American Studies. He is truly grateful for the upcoming chance to immerse himself in Latin America, delving into the intricate world of political and public service work, particularly concerning Latin American immigration policy. Being the son of Mexican immigrants, these subjects have always held a profound significance for him. That's why he is absolutely thrilled to dive into these areas of study and meaningful engagement alongside the Ashoka - Hello World Team!

David Gonzalez

David Gonzalez is a Junior at Harvard College double concentrating in Psychology and Economics while also pursuing a Spanish language citation. He was born and raised in El Paso, Texas and is the son of two public school teachers. Being raised by educators meant David got an unique inside perspective from his parents about the shortcomings of education. Although he is unsure about what he wants to do in the future, he has always had a soft spot for equitable access to a quality education and opportunities beyond the classroom, which is what motivated him to work in the field of policy. He aspires to either attend law school or work in legal technology. For fun, David enjoys exploring Boston with friends, going to the gym, Latin dancing, traveling, and doing anything outdoors. He has also spent a semester abroad studying in Granada, Spain.

Denver Tolson is a sophomore residing in Dunster House concentrating in Government. She hopes to also pursue a secondary in Classical Civilizations as well as a citation in Korean. She is from Duluth, GA and is very passionate about public service, especially in my home state. She is on the Harvard Women’s Soccer Team and is also the Vice President of Harvard’s Chapter of Athlete Ally.
