LOCATION: Washington, DC, USA

FORMAT: Our office is able to host a REMOTE OR IN-PERSON intern (depending on mutual preference). We anticipate hybrid office environment (that's our current set up) with an expectation that interns will go into the office for in-person meetings or events when needed if they are local.

TIME ZONE: Eastern

WORKING HOURS: There is flexibility regarding which hours the intern works.

ABOUT US: Advancement Project is a national racial-justice organization building power in communities of color every day. Rooted in the great human rights struggles for equality and justice, we use strategic litigation, on the ground organizing, and narrative shifting communications to fight for an inclusive, multi-racial, just society. We focus on liberatory and supportive public education, the right to vote, freedom and safety from criminalization. 

You will Advancement Team:
--in court fighting discriminatory system and policies 
--on the ground working with organized communities to strengthen strategy and build capacity
--in the media adding racial justice analysis to critical issues
--in meetings holding policymakers accountable 

Our communications team uses press, digital and culture change strategy to interventions by telling proactive narratives that center the self-determination of communities of color and the just world that we building.


 RESPONSIBILITIES & PROJECTS: 

  • Contribute to the development of strategic communications 
  • Develop content for earned media, such as press releases, op-eds and other press materials. 
  • Develop content for social media platforms related to racial justice issues driven by program priorities
  • Monitor media coverage and public opinion of topics related to program priorities
  • Assist with pitching, cultivating and maintaining press lists and media contacts.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and organizational partners on communications for national, state, and local campaigns and initiatives.
  • Contribute to external partner campaigns by providing necessary support.
  • Work closely with internal teams to implement planned strategies, special projects and events.
  • Maintain current knowledge of communications by partners and national allied organizations
