Overview

Government Accountability Project, founded in 1977, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting whistleblowers and promoting accountability on issues of significant public interest. We provide legal representation to whistleblowers, advocate for reform to address their disclosures, and spearhead legislative reforms to safeguard truth-tellers. With over 8,000 clients represented across industries and governments, our work combats waste, fraud, and abuse at the highest levels of power. We remain steadfast in our mission to champion truth and justice for the public good.

Program Details

The intern will support Dana Gold, Senior Director of Advocacy & Strategy and Director of the Democracy Protection Initiative, in advancing Know Your Rights initiatives and implementing GAP’s methodology of protecting whistleblowers and ensuring their disclosures promote government and corporate accountability.

Responsibilities may include assisting with advocacy campaigns, research and writing on critical issues like democracy protection, scientific integrity, immigration detention abuses, public health, safety and the environment, and drafting communications and educational materials for strategic initiatives. Strong research, writing, communication, and organizational skills are essential for this role.

Moderate Supervision: Intern will meet with their supervisor regularly, but will be given the opportunity to work on independent projects.

This Director's Internship Host will potentially host additional undergraduate interns outside of the Director's Internship Program.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for drafting advocacy materials, conducting outreach, and summarizing findings. Statistical and data analysis are helpful skills that can be applied to conduct creative instrumental research, such as analyzing intake trends or creating and conducting surveys. Familiarity with legal and ethical frameworks, as well as an ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism, is highly valued.
