- Draft and edit communications materials, including social media copy, press support documents, newsletters, web content, and internal memos.
- Monitor news, media, and social platforms for coverage related to Advancement Project’s issue areas; support concise daily or weekly summaries.
- Conduct background research to support press pitches, op-eds, reports, and campaigns.
- Assist with message development, talking points, and narrative framing grounded in racial justice analysis.
- Support digital organizing efforts, including content scheduling, basic analytics tracking, and asset management.
- Maintain media lists, content calendars, and internal communications trackers.
- Provide logistical and administrative support for media briefings, campaigns, and public reports.

Situated at the forefront of the national stage in the racial justice movement, Advancement Project is a cutting edge, no-holds-barred national organization dedicated to building local power in communities of color. Centered on a movement lawyering approach, defined as community-centered racial justice lawyering, Advancement Project supports power building in grassroots organizations working to eliminate oppressive structures in our laws and institutions and shift narratives towards transformative change.

Program Details
Moderate Supervision: Intern will meet with their supervisor regularly but will be given the opportunity to work on independent projects.
Hybrid office structure with staff based in Washington D.C. and other states across the U.S. Opportunity to network at staff lunches and throughout in-person office days. Advancement Project works in lock-step with grassroots organizers while also impacting the national conversation on anti-racism and power building. We are the trainers’ trainer. This Director's Internship Host will not host additional undergraduate interns outside of the Director's Internship Program.
- Strong writing and editing skills with attention to clarity, accuracy, and audience.
- Demonstrated interest in racial justice, civil rights, education equity, or immigrant justice.
- Familiarity with media, social media platforms, and digital storytelling.
- Ability to synthesize complex policy or legal concepts into accessible language.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
- Experience with tools such as Microsoft Suite, social media platforms, or basic design tools preferred.
