Summer in Washington Program

The Summer in Washington (SIW) program organizes political and public-service focused events in DC over the summer months and is often referred to as the IOP’s “third semester.” It is an opportunity for students to gain exposure to the broad range of careers and experiences in politics and public service – from meeting with elected officials to visiting polling firms and think tanks, museums, and much more – and to create a community for Harvard undergraduates around politics and public service. Open to all Harvard Undergraduates living and/or working in Washington DC, the program also provides opportunities to interact with Harvard alumni, explore Washington, DC and connect with peers.

Rising freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, and the Class of 2020 are all welcome to participate, and there is no application necessary to participate in the program.

"The Summer in Washington program is a one-of-its-kind experience. It offers a chance to explore DC, enjoy great art and culture, and meet and learn from a broad and knowledgeable array of people in the nation's capital as possible. Students can chat with journalists and lobbyists, tour libraries and question judges, join presidential appointees for a pancake brunch and mingle with peers from other schools after work hours. SIW offers stunning events and opportunities for anyone - sign up and join friends and peers for some exciting SIW programming!"  Richard Yarrow, 2019 Summer in Washington Coordinator
