Nina Paneque

Nina Paneque is a rising sophomore at Harvard College planning to concentrate in History & Science with a citation in Spanish. She is from Miami, FL and founded Because She Can as a junior in a high school where she acted as primary content creator. Because She Can is an online platform created to combat racial and gender discrimination in sports, specifically basketball. At Harvard, Nina is a member of The Crimson’s Editorial Board and the Women’s Initiative in Leadership at the Institute of Politics. She spends her spare time freelance writing. Nina is passionate about social justice and interested in the intersection of law and journalism, so she is excited to work as a communications intern with Advancement Project this summer.

Christine Mui

Christine Mui is a rising junior in Eliot House from Chicago, IL. She is studying economics with a citation in Mandarin Chinese. On campus, she serves as Associate Managing Editor for the Harvard Political Review and a Flyby Blog executive. She also reports on health and COVID-19 for The Harvard Crimson. During the past semester, she worked as a co-op at The Boston Globe’s metro desk. Christine is excited to continue working with New York Times journalists Jonathan Martin and Alex Burns this summer on their upcoming book about the 2020 election as a turning point in American politics.

John Ferguson

John Ferguson is a rising Senior that will graduate with a BA in Government and MA in Regional Studies—East Asia. On campus, John is a founding director and current chief of the Harvard Undergraduate Foreign Policy Initiative. He has previously researched Chinese technology and diplomacy at Brookings for White House National Security Council China Director Rush Doshi, Carnegie-Tsinghua for Director Paul Haenle, and the Harvard Kennedy School for Ambassador Nicholas Burns. Before coming to Harvard, he completed his senior (gap) year in Beijing on scholarship from the State Department. John is motivated by the promise of U.S.-China techno-diplomacy—the pairing of comparative American and Chinese advantages in technology through diplomacy to solve global challenges. Daniel Brickhill

Daniel Brickhill is a rising senior in Quincy House, originally from Buckingham, Virginia. He studies Government (Policy Track) with a secondary in Russian, Eastern European, and Central Asian Studies. On campus (or on a virtual campus), he is involved with Harvard Christian Impact and The John Adams Society. While learning from home during COVID-19, Daniel has also had the opportunity to substitute teach at a local school. He is passionate about the nexus of law and national security, the American rural-urban divide, and the state of conservatism in the United States. This summer, Daniel is excited to research technology and international competition at the American Enterprise Institute.

Callia Chuang

Callia Chuang is a rising junior in Quincy House from Bethesda, Maryland. She is concentrating in History and Literature with a secondary in Psychology. On campus, Callia serves as a Director of Harvard Expressions hip hop dance company and as a Scene Director for Harvard Eleganza Show. She also works as a Peer Advising Fellow and is a member of Quincy House Committee. Previously, she served as an intern for U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin. Callia is passionate about using the arts to facilitate political and social change, and she is excited to be working with Americans for the Arts this summer to engage in meaningful arts advocacy.

Alexa Jordan

Alexa is a Junior in Adams House, but has spent the last year in Chicago, Illinois. She studies Government and Economics, with a keen interest in both American and international politics. On campus, Alexa serves as the Co-Director of the Harvard Leadership Institute for First-Year Experience (LIFE), House representative on the Harvard Undergraduate Council, and student representative on the Student-Faculty Committee on Student Life. At the IOP, Alexa has served on the Executive Board for the Fellows and Study Group program during her sophomore and junior year. During her internship with the AU litigation team, Alexa hopes to learn more about constitutional law and explore First Amendment cases.

Janna Ramadan

Amnesty International

Janna Ramadan is a rising junior in Currier House from Boston, Massachusetts. She is pursuing a joint concentration in Government and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, with interests in issues of human rights and decolonization. On campus, Janna serves as the co-Chair of the IOP's Politics of Race and Ethnicity program. She is also a part of Harvard's Model United Nations team, both staffing conferences and traveling to compete, and her affinity group communities, the Arab Society and Islamic Society.

This summer, Janna is working with Amnesty International in the Government Relations department focused on the Middle East and North Africa. Given her academic and personal interests in the MENA region, she is extremely excited to work at the crossroads of international relations and domestic politics, using international and human rights law with research from Amnesty offices in the region as the foundation of foreign policy proposal development for Capitol Hill.

Isa MarionSims is a rising junior in Pfoho studying Government with a prospective citation in Arabic. On campus, Isa is an associate with Harvard College Consulting Group, the Political Action Chair of the Generational African American Student Association, and a volunteer with PBHA's Franklin After-School Enrichment program, a free after-school program for low-income students in nearby Dorchester. She is also a member of the IOP's Citizenship Tutoring and Politics of Race and Ethnicity programs. In her free time, she enjoys music, food, and travel. Isa is from the Los Angeles area, where she grew up playing soccer, and is excited to work at the intersection of soccer, social impact, and government with Angel City FC in her hometown.

Jessica Shand

Artistic Freedom Initiative
New York, NY

A rising senior at Harvard (A.B. in Mathematics & Music) and the New England Conservatory (M.M. in Flute Performance), Jessica Shand paused her studies during the 2020-21 school year to help tackle the pressing issues faced by artists in the wake of COVID-19. As a full-time Research Analyst with the Advisory Board for the Arts, she conducted quantitative and qualitative research at the intersections of digital technology, equity and inclusion, and the arts, culture, and entertainment industries, working with member organizations worldwide. A solo composer and performer, she was named a Haynes International Young Artist in 2016 and since then has premiered upwards of 40 new works, worked with New Amsterdam Records and the International Contemporary Ensemble, received the 2020 Hugh F. MacColl Prize in composition, and was the youngest person in recent history invited to speak at the Annual Meeting of the Society for Music Theory and American Musicological Society. At Harvard, she has served as the president of the Harvard College Opera, one of only a handful of undergraduate-led opera companies in the world, and as the treasurer of Gender Inclusivity in Math (GIIM). Originally from Colorado, she is looking forward to joining the Artistic Freedom Initiative in support of its mission to advance creative cultural exchange and provide legal services to artists facing censorship and persecution.

Nabib Ahmed

Nabib Ahmed is a rising senior in Currier House, originally from New York City, NY. He is studying Economics with a secondary in Computer Science and a language citation in Spanish. Outside of academics, he serves on the board of the Harvard College Japan Initiative. He's also an Associate Consultant for the Harvard College Consulting Group, a teaching fellow, the Director of Development of the Harvard Islamic Society, and a senior member of the Harvard Political Union. He enjoys volunteering and canvassing for campaigns; he's canvassed for Hillary Clinton, Andrew Cuomo, and Joe Biden. Nabib looks forward to utilizing his community organizing and advocacy skills for the Bangladesh Society this summer!

Youmna Chamieh

Youmna Chamieh is a senior originally from Paris, France, and Beirut, Lebanon. She lives in Adams House and concentrates in Government with a secondary in English. On campus, she is most involved in the Harvard Human Rights Review, E. J. Safra Center for Ethics, and MIT Development Lab. She is passionate about creative writing and political philosophy. This summer, after an incredibly difficult year for Lebanon, Youmna is thankful and excited to intern at Beit-el-Baraka, a local NGO whose programs span blast relief, education, agriculture, medical support, housing and food aid, with the ultimate mission of providing Lebanese citizens with what the state did not: concrete necessities for survival, certainly, but also a basic sense of dignity and respect.

Hannah Bottarel

Hannah Bottarel is a rising sophomore in Cabot House (best house), originally from Missouri. Though she has yet to declare her concentration officially, she plans to study Social Studies or History and Literature. She currently serves as the Director of the Marketing for the JFK Jr. Forum, dances with the Harvard Ballet Company, works on research with USAID Iraq and the Harvard Undergraduate Foreign Policy Initiative to advocate for women’s rights in Iraq, and serves as a liaison for Bill Kristol through the IOP’s Fellows and Study Group program. Having grown up in an immigrant family, Hannah is passionate about immigrant/refugee rights and is thrilled to serve at the U.S./Mexico border this summer.

Hiren Lemma is a rising Sophomore in Leverett House. She intends to pursue a joint-concentration in Social Studies and African & African American Studies. At Harvard, she is a member of the IOP Politics of Race and Ethnicity and a leader for the First-Year Urban Program. She is very excited to intern with the Black Voters Matter Fund this summer. She enjoys engaging with local communities and empowering voters to create change, and she is enthusiastic about the opportunity to do so through this organization.

Hoda Abdalla

Hoda Abdalla is a rising junior in Kirkland house from Lexington, South Carolina. She is concentrating in Government and African American studies. At Harvard, Hoda has served as the Political Action Chair of the Association of Black Harvard Women and Co-President of the Black Pre-Law Association. Hoda has also been involved with the Institute of Politics, works as a consultant with Harvard Undergraduate Political Consulting, and tutors at the Academic Resource Center. She is looking forward to exploring her interest in grassroots organizing this summer while advancing the mission of the Black Voters Matter Fund by harnessing the political power of Black Voters.

Chloe Shawah

Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence

Chloe Shawah is a rising senior in Cabot House from Monroe, Connecticut. She studies Statistics with a secondary in Ethnicity, Migration, and Rights and a language citation in Arabic. Outside of classes, Chloe spends her time editing, writing, and opining as Co-Chair the Harvard Crimson's Editorial Board and works as a research assistant studying self-defense gun use at Radcliffe. This summer, Chloe is honored to be working with the Brady Campaign to learn more about how advocacy and research can stop the U.S.'s gun violence epidemic.

Michael Baick

Michael Baick is a rising senior in Kirkland House, concentrating in History and Literature with a secondary in Economics. At Harvard, he sings with the Harvard Glee Club, participates in various IOP and Harvard Democrats programs, and led the Humanities 10 Mentorship Program. He hails from Longmeadow, Massachusetts, and is excited to spend this summer teaching English Language Arts to middle school-aged children at Breakthrough Greater Boston. When not thinking about politics and education, Michael enjoys choral music, creative writing, and running.

Maya Bhagat

Maya Bhagat is a rising senior in Lowell house pursuing a joint concentration in History of Science and Romance Languages and Literatures. She grew up in Aurora, IL, and went to secondary school in Mumbai, India. On campus, Maya is an editor for the Harvard Crimson's blog, Flyby, and is an editoral staff for Synthesis, Harvard's Undergraduate Journal of History of Science. She loves to travel, bake, and watch Bollywood movies. This summer, Maya is excited to explore her passion for education reform as a teaching fellow at Breakthrough Greater Boston.

Jamal Nimer

Jamal Nimer is a rising second-year in Leverett from Chicago, IL planning on concentrating in Social Studies with a minor in Computer Science. On campus he is active with the Society of Arab Students and the Palestine Solidarity Committee. He is also a part of the International Relations Council’s HMUN and HMUN Dubai conferences. In his spare time he enjoys biking, practicing guitar, and learning to cook family recipes. He is excited to be joining Brookings this summer and looks forward to learning about labor economics as well as how think tanks operate.

Eamon is a senior in Cabot House from San Francisco, California. He is concentrating in Social Studies with a focus on the intersection between economics and politics. On campus, Eamon volunteers as a tutor with the Mission Hill Afterschool Program, while also serving as Stein Czar on the Cabot House Committee. He also loves soccer, playing on the club team as well as covering Men’s Soccer for the Crimson. Eamon is excited to develop and advocate for policies which support sustainable local businesses with Cambridge Local First and Think Local First DC this summer.

Zane Gray

Zane Gray is a rising Sophomore going into Dunster House. He plans on concentrating in Government with a possible minor in Value Theory. At home he is a member of Cape May Cumberland Young Democrats, and is very active in his community. On campus he hopes to be active within the IOP and Kennedy school.

Owen Bernstein

Owen Bernstein is a rising junior in Adams House from Sammamish, Washington. He studies Government on the data science track and is pursuing a secondary in East Asian Studies. On campus, he is a co-chair of the Institute of Politics' Economic Policy Team and plays for the ultimate frisbee team. Last summer, he worked for PEN America advocating for human rights both domestically and abroad. He is looking forward to continuing to advance justice and combat inequality through policy and advocacy.

Abia Khan

Abia Khan is a rising sophomore at Harvard College intending to study Government and Sociology with a Secondary in Educational Studies. She is involved in the IOP through the Fellows and Study Groups program as Mayor Michael Tubbs outreach liaison in Spring of 2021, the Policy Program as the Associate Editor of the Education commission, and the Fellows Search Committee. Abia is also involved in WHRB (Harvard Radio Broadcasting) as a news reporter and is also a cadet in the Army ROTC program at MIT. Back in her home state of Arizona, Abia has been involved with local political races. In the November 2020 election cycle, Abia was the campaign manager for Aaron Marquez in the race for the Phoenix Union Governing Board, and is currently the campaign manager for Dana Allmond in the race for AZ State Representative, District 11. This summer, Abia is excited to be working with Imran Ahmed and the Center for Countering Digital Hate as a research assistant and to learn more about the effects of misinformation in politics and our broader society.

Hannah Martinez

Hannah Martinez is a rising junior in Kirkland House. She concentrates in History with a secondary in Government and is from Whittier, CA. At Harvard, she writes on student life for the Crimson and Stories from the Border and plays for the quidditch team. Hannah also enjoys volunteering for PBHA through Harvard's Strong Women Strong Girls chapter, and loved getting to mentor young girls from Boston. In her free time, Hannah watches too many period dramas and does watercolor and calligraphy art. Hannah is passionate about history and is excited to help out the City Clerk's office in her hometown archive and collect material about its history.

Katelyn Turner

Katelyn is a Senior at Harvard College in Cabot House studying Psychology with a secondary in Philosophy. On campus, she is involved in Harvard Model Congress, a nonprofit organization promoting civic engagement through government simulation for high school students across the world. Katelyn also volunteers with Harvard’s Small Claims Advisory Service to provide free legal information to clients in Massachusetts, and Cabot’s House Committee to organize house-life and plan student events. In her spare time, she loves hanging out with friends, jamming out, and binge watching some quality Netflix. Katelyn is very excited to be working with the Committee for Public Counsel Services this summer conducting social science research with their Mental Health Litigation Division.

He is interested in election analytics and analysis and is very excited to be interning at the Cook Political Report this summer.

Joshua Conde is a rising senior living in Currier. Originally from Jersey City, New Jersey, Joshua is studying government. On campus, he is a peer-counselor and member of the editorial board for the Crimson. Along with playing club baseball, he also the president of the Harvard Boxing Club. This summer he is excited to be working with Councilperson James Solomon in his hometown, Jersey City.

Kate Travis

Kate Travis is a rising senior in Adams House from Medfield, Massachusetts. She studies History and Literature with a secondary in Government, and is passionate about issues of voting rights, criminal justice, and environmental justice. Outside of classes, Kate has been involved with the Harvard College Democrats, including Harvard College Democrats for Warren, as well as multiple programs through the IOP. She currently works as a Peer Advising Fellow and a fellow for Equal Citizens, a democracy reform organization founded by Professor Lawrence Lessig. This summer, Kate is thrilled to work as an intern for Crooked Media.

Nosa Lawani

Data Science: High School Summer Bootcamp

Nosa is a rising sophomore in Currier likely concentrating in Comparative Literature. His study of Latin and Greek throughout high school brought him a love of literature rooted in the moral and political questions that all societies face. He continued his interest in those questions as they exist in today’s world by participating in his high school’s debating society and political clubs. He hopes to learn other modern languages at the College (starting with German) to explore such questions in different times and places. To learn more about modern, quantative approaches to such questions, he took GOV-1005, an introduction to the data science of “big data.” The instructor, Dr. Kane, informed Nosa of his interest in offering a virtual version of the course to high schoolers for free. Nosa is looking forward to developing his skills in project organization, learning more data-science by writing and teaching curriculum, and spreading these powerful tools to students without cost to them.

Harpeet Singh

Harpreet Singh is a rising senior at Harvard College studying Government and Computer Science. He is from Mississippi and his family is originally from Punjab, India. On campus, Harpreet is a serves as the President of Harvard Primus (the first-generation and low-income student union), works at the Harvard Office of Admissions and Financial Aid as a student Coordinator for the Harvard First-Generation Program, is on the board of Harvard Model Congress, and serves as Peer Advisor for first-year students. Harpreet is interested in the intersection between tech and public service and is excited to be exploring this interest at the Democratic National Committee this summer.

Anna Duffy

Anna Duffy is an off-cycle senior studying Government with a Secondary in Economics and a citation in Spanish, originally from the Philadelphia suburbs. She is the former President of the Institute of Politics and Chair of the Campaign and Advocacy Program. On campus, Anna has also served as the Director of Harvard for Biden, a civics teacher, and the Chair of the First Year Social Committee. During the Fall of 2020, Anna worked on the Biden campaign in Pennsylvania and the Georgia run-off elections. Anna feels fortunate to intern at the Department of Commerce to serve the American people by implementing the very policies promised on the campaign trail. As a post-grad, Anna hopes to pursue a career in progressive politics fighting for racial, economic, and climate justice.

Daniel Brunnick

Daniel Brunnick is a rising senior in Cabot House concentrating in Applied Math/Economics with a secondary in History of Science. Daniel is originally from El Paso, Texas and took classes virtually from Oxford, Mississippi in the fall and Austin, Texas in the spring. He enjoys spending time working with the best House (Cabot) on the House Committee where he helps with intramural sports and is hoping for a return to in-person IMs in the fall. Daniel is also on the board of Harvard’s Latinx’s in Finance and Technology (LiFT) and in his free time enjoys running and working out, history, traveling, and watching movies. This summer, Daniel is looking forward to exploring public policy through working with the federal government in the Department of Commerce.

Jennifer Su

This summer, Jennifer is very excited to learn about national health policy and work with the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health to address health inequities on the federal level!

In his free time, Eddie enjoys binging TV shows and reading US history books. He is very excited to explore public service and national security at the TSA this summer.

Isaac Heller

Isaac Heller is a rising junior in Kirkland House, originally from South Bend, Indiana. Currently, Isaac is pursuing a joint concentration in Theatre Dance and Media and the Studies of Women, Gender, and Sexuality. On campus, he is very involved with theatre and has participated in shows as a set designer and assistant stage manager. More recently, he has been spending time working on virtual performances and has enjoyed finding innovative ways to share experiences through online platforms. Beyond this, he is also involved with PBHA as a part of STAGE, a program that uses after-school theatre to build spaces where young people can develop their creativity, confidence, and collaborative skills. Isaac is a writer drawn to work that explores the intersections of storytelling, performance, and queer history. This summer, he is very excited to be working with Deviant Content, Inc. on projects that reimagine the relationship between historical research and contemporary community building.

Atticus Hatfield

Atticus Hatfield is a rising Junior in Eliot House pursuing the Data Science track of the Government Concentration. After his Sophomore Fall semester, he took a gap year and worked at a law firm in his home town of Charleston, West Virginia throughout 2020. During the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic, when workplaces initially shut down, Atticus worked with local gubernatorial campaign, placing over 15,000 phone calls to voters across his state as a phone-banker. This summer, Atticus is excited to pursue his interests in U.S. politics and data science as an intern with Echelon Insights, a D.C.-based polling firm.

Afiya Rahman

Afiya Rahman is a rising sophomore in Pfoho originally from Syracuse, NY. She is planning on concentrating in Sociology with a secondary in Near Eastern Languages & Civilizations. At Harvard, she is the co-director of Internal Relations at the Harvard Islamic Society, the Director of Programs at Harvard SAAPS, a tutor with Citizenship Tutoring at the IOP, and a Ghungroo Magazine Editor. Afiya also enjoys being a member of the South Asian Association and being a part of their large production, Ghungroo. This summer, she is excited to be working with the El-Hibri Foundation and hopes to gain important insight and experience in advancing inclusion and financial support in Muslim communities and organizations.

Laeticia Allache is a rising sophomore in Winthrop House. She plans to concentrate in History & Literature and Government, as well as continue her study of French and Arabic. On campus, she serves as the advocacy co-chair for Act on a Dream, on the design board for the Harvard International Review (HIR), and as the women’s captain for the Harvard College Running Club. This summer, she is looking forward to serving as an intern for the El-Hibri foundation where she hopes to assist in the inclusion of Muslim-American communities through innovative programs to provide resources and skills.

Madison, or Madi, is an off-cycle junior in Mather House. She is pursuing a joint concentration in English and Comparative Religion. On campus, she serves as the current president of The Advocate, a literary arts magazine that publishes quarterly. She has also been a tutor for Ec10 and a volunteer at Y2Y. In her free time, she enjoys walks, puzzles, and spending time with her friends. This summer, she is excited to work with an organization that supports her community and to learn more about food justice and advocacy.

Eric Jjemba

Eric Jjemba is a senior in Quincy House and a proud South Jersey native. He concentrates in Environmental Science & Engineering with a Government secondary, and his interests lie at the juncture of technology, society, and policy. Eric has served as Co-Chair of the Fellows & Study Groups Program, President of the Black Pre-Law Association, and Advocacy Director of Habitat for Humanity, all with a desire to uplift dreams often deferred and communities often marginalized. Not to be overlooked, he defines himself as an escape room enthusiast, an amateur outdoorsman, and an avid Philly sports fan. Connor is a rising junior from New Hampshire concentrating in statistics and computer science. On campus, he spends much of his time working as a teaching fellow and head course assistant for CS50, but he can also be seen running with the Harvard College Running Club, tutoring with PBHA, or just spending time with his friends. Outside of school, he is a seasoned ski instructor, an avid hiker, a loyal Liverpool fan, and a slow but enthusiastic reader. Connor is passionate about using data science and technology to work toward leveling the playing field in education, combating climate change, and providing economic opportunity for all. This summer, Connor is looking forward to using his technical skills to assist FEMA in its mission of supporting residents and first-responders in the aftermath of emergency situations.

Angela Caloia

Angela Caloia is a rising junior in Winthrop house concentrating in Economics with a secondary in English. On campus, she is an analyst for Harvard Undergraduate Consulting on Business and the Environment and a staff writer for the Harvard Undergraduate Law Review. She has also been a research assistant for various projects at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics, and in particular the Project on Workforce. Angela is part of the Harvard University Varsity Women’s Soccer Team, and a representative on the Harvard Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She spent her sophomore year remotely completing an exchange with Oxford University whilst playing soccer in the top Icelandic and Italian women’s soccer leagues. She has represented Italy internationally at the U19 level and in October 2020 she received her first call-up to the full Italian National Team for the European Qualifying match versus Denmark. Angela is passionate about social justice and using the law as a mechanism for alleviating diverse forms of inequality and is thus excited to spend the upcoming summer as a judicial intern in the in the chambers of Florida Supreme Court Justice John Couriel.

Garrett O'Brien

Garrett O'Brien is a rising Sophomore in Adams House planning to concentrate in Social Studies with a secondary in History of Art and Architecture. On campus, he is a editor for the Harvard Crimson magazine, a writer for the Harvard Political Review, and hosts a radio show for WHRB 95.3 FM. This summer he will serve as an intern for the Generation Lab, a youth polling firm based in Washington, DC. He will be working to grow their network of media partners and will also be helping to generate, analyze, and compile polling results and questions for government and non-profit organizations. He hopes that this experience will further his interest in data journalism and will help to amplify the voices of young people in the current political discourse.

Aysha Emmerson, a third-year in Kirkland House, has a passion for helping individuals and communities support one another in overcoming adversity. Raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Aysha funnels her interest in public affairs into her roles as Co-Prime Minister of the Harvard Canadian Club, editing columns at The Harvard Crimson, and as Chair of the Leadership Institute’s Youth Lead the Change program. Michelle is a rising senior in Cabot House, studying Neuroscience. She is from Yangon, Myanmar and moved to Dallas, Texas in 2012. On campus, she is involved in volunteering for the Harvard College Alzheimer's Buddies, where she visits Alzheimer's patients at residential care homes, as well as planning international conferences for the Global Education Movement. As the president of Students for Myanmar, she is also active in raising awareness about Myanmar in the Harvard community. This summer, after seeing firsthand the devastating ripple effects of COVID-19 on businesses and subsequently, individuals from low-income backgrounds, Michelle hopes to support Health Action Alliance in rebuilding public health in the business community.

Philly Mathew is a rising sophomore in Adams House concentrating in Economics. He is the co-founder of Got Food?, a mobile application and advocacy tool that assists the food-insecure population in locating nearby feeding resources. Currently used in 27 states, he works to expand the reach and impact of Got Food?. As an anti-hunger advocate, he has co-authored a position paper on the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Bill, supporting the expansion of government programs and benefits. This summer, Philly is thrilled to work with Hunger Free America as he continues helping to draft policy to change the lives of the food-insecure community across the country.

Michael Zhu is a rising Senior in Leverett House concentrating in Government with a secondary in History. Throughout his time at Harvard, Michael has been heavily involved in policy research, legal advocacy, and community outreach. This past year during the COVID-19 pandemic, Michael has served as a Harvard Peer Advising Fellow, as Central Asia Policy Chair for HUFPI, and as Criminal Justice Policy Chair at the Harvard Institute of Politics. Currently, Michael serves as Executive Director of the PBHA Small Claims Advisory Service, and as a Communications & Engagement Intern for The Brookings Institution. In his spare time, Michael enjoys photography, cooking, and playing sports. This summer, Michael is excited to be interning for the International Leadership Foundation, where he will be collaborating with other AAPI student organizers on developing civic engagement and political advocacy projects; all of which is aimed at helping to promote the political presence and interests of an AAPI community that has experienced both intense racialized violence but also massive political mobilization amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nuri is concentrating in Architecture Studies with a secondary in Film/Video, and she leads digital design and social media for the Fossil Fuel Divest Harvard campaign, sings with the Radcliffe Pitches a cappella, and writes for the Arts section of the Harvard Crimson. She also founded the Bengali Association of Students at Harvard and is on the board of the South Asian Women's Collective. This summer, she is very excited to work with the Boston-based design firm Kennedy & Violich Architecture and the urban farming group The Farmers Collaborative to assist with the planning and construction of a Rimol greenhouse in Dorchester and explore how standard dimensional lumber can be transformed into a local, participatory design process.

Kevin Wang is a rising junior in Currier House from Northern Virginia. He studies Government with a secondary in History. Outside of classes, Kevin works in Prof. Kosuke Imai's research group on simulation methods for legislative redistricting. He is also part of a project based at the University of Bremen studying migrants' access to social protection. On campus, he broadcasts classical music to greater Boston and beyond at WHRB and volunteers for the Small Claims Advisory Service. Jack "Alex" White III

A dual graduate of a small rural public high school and a local community college, Jack "Alex" White III is the first person in his mountain valley community to enroll in an Ivy as a graduating senior (and FGLI student). As such, he has worked to be a special advocate of rural areas—a path that has led him to public office (as Virginia's youngest government official at the time of his appointment). Alex will be using his Summer of Service funding to continue that policy-making work full time on behalf of his 24,000 constituents. Alex founded the Rural Leadership Initiative, an award-winning 501(c)3 nonprofit offering the first ever stipend program supporting rural undergraduate students at "top schools" like Harvard. He has also been the lucky recipient of numerous honors, such as authoring his own regional column on rural issues, working as a White House Intern, and serving as a national convention delegate–along with several positions on and off of campus.

Tobias Benn

Tobias Benn is a sophomore in Lowell House studying History. This summer he is excited to learn first-hand about the United Kingdom’s parliamentary system, the workings of representative democracy, and to deepen his understanding of being a United States citizen from a comparative perspective through his internship with MP Alan Mak. Outside of classes Tobias enjoys exploring diverse interests ranging from security studies to Art History. He is co-founder and co-president of the Harvard Undergraduate Art History Society and enjoys assisting professors in developing courses. During Spring 2021 Tobias took a gap semester to work on a cattle, egg, and vegetable farm in rural Virginia.

She is also co-establishing an autism advocacy organization on campus in the fall of 2021. She is interested in learning more about infectious diseases in the Global South and has worked at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health with the India Health Systems Study as well as the Fresh Clinic through the Ragon Institute in Durban, South Africa. This summer, she will be interning at the Prolepsis Institute - a non-profit organization of preventive environmental and occupational medicine.

Raised by immigrant parents who instilled in her a passion for advancing social justice from a young age, Lena's interest in politics was sparked by her engagement in local politics in her home state of Pennsylvania during high school. She is thrilled to spend the summer serving constituents from her own district in the office of Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon.

Kaylee Burgess is a rising sophomore in Adams House planning to concentrate in Government, with a secondary in Ethnicity, Migration, and Rights, focusing on Latinx studies. While her first year has been virtual, Kaylee has enjoyed attending talks hosted by the IOP, participating in events with Latinas Unidas, and spending time with Harvard's Model United Nations team. Coming from a large Mexican family and a FGLI background, Kaylee is passionate about immigration, justice, and penal reform and giving back to her communities. That is why, this summer, she is excited to work with the Office of Mayor Bottoms and help the city of Atlanta with their initiative for police reform.

Daniel Gottesman is a rising junior from Los Angeles, CA. He lives in Currier House and studies Government, with a Secondary in Economics. On campus, Daniel serves on the boards of the Harvard Political Union and the Alexander Hamilton Society, and can also be found playing intramural sports and club quidditch. He is passionate about education policy, foreign policy, and fighting political polarization. During his gap year in 2020-21, he did research for a think tank focusing on partisanship, worked on school bus policy with the Boston Public Schools Department of Transportation, and helped train congressional staff and state legislators on bipartisan negotiation tactics. Alexandria King is a rising sophomore planning to concentrate in Government with a secondary field in the Studies of Women, Gender and Sexuality. Alexandria is originally from Houston Texas but has previously lived in Miami Florida and Dallas Texas. On campus Alexandria is an avid member of the Harvard College Democrats where she serves as the current year's Membership Director. Additionally, she is a part of the Harvard Cheer team and the IOP. Last fall she was a part of the Campaign and Advocacy Program and this spring served as a student liaison for spring fellow Nsé Ufot. Off campus she is heavily involved in organizing and advocacy and is a co-founder of the Texas based civic engagement organization PoweredxYouth. The organization worked to organize young Texas voters contributing to the state's historic youth turnout in the 2020 presidential election cycle. This summer Alexandria is very excited to work with Senator Ed Markey and his staff to help the constituents of Massachussetts.

Araoluwa "Ara" Omotowa

She has worked as a Research Assistant at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study and also interns for the Harvard Law Review. This summer, Ara will be working remotely for the D.C. Office of Senator Elizabeth Warren, where she will be providing administrative assistance, researching policy and monitoring correspondence for Senator Warren's constituents in Massachusetts.

As a passionate environmental activist, she is a core organizer for Fossil Fuel Divest Harvard and, off-campus, for Sunrise Movement Boston. Outside of class, he teaches Boston high schoolers on international affairs through the Harvard Program for International Education, writes for the Harvard Political Review and the Harvard International Review, and conducts research through the Weatherhead Center on corruption in Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia. He is particularly looking forward to applying academic research to pressing social issues at the Tobin Project.

Sebastian Pereira

Sebastian Pereira is a rising Junior living in Mather House studying Applied Mathematics. He is originally born in Austria but grew up on the east end of Long Island. On campus, Sebastian is a member of the track and field, where he is a Long Jumper and Triple Jumper. Sebastian is very fond of the outdoors and loves music. This summer Sebastian is working for the Town of Southampton, exploring ways to improve environmental sustainability.

James Joyce

Anna Duffy

Anna Duffy is an off-cycle senior studying Government with a Secondary in Economics and a citation in Spanish, originally from the Philadelphia suburbs. She is the former President of the Institute of Politics and Chair of the Campaign and Advocacy Program. On campus, Anna has also served as the Director of Harvard for Biden, a civics teacher, and the Chair of the First Year Social Committee. During the Fall of 2020, Anna worked on the Biden campaign in Pennsylvania and the Georgia run-off elections. Anna feels fortunate to intern at the Department of Commerce to serve the American people by implementing the very policies promised on the campaign trail. As a post-grad, Anna hopes to pursue a career in progressive politics fighting for racial, economic, and climate justice.

Simar Bajaj

Simar is a rising sophomore in Dunster House originally from Fremont, California, concentrating in History of Science with a secondary in Global Health and Health Policy. He is involved in a wide range of activities, serving as Director of Programming for the World Pre-Health Conference, Associate Editor of the IOP Health Policy Initiative, Director of Education for the Harvard College Podcast Network, and Managing Editor of Prescriptions Magazine. Outside of Harvard, Simar hosts his own podcast (That Medic Network), helps lead the American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative, and conducts medical research at Stanford and Massachusetts General Hospital. Committed to a tradition of using his voice to bring attention to health inequities, Simar is incredibly excited to work within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services this summer.

Chris Cantwell

On campus, Chris leads efforts within the Harvard Votes Challenge to support and grow the Boston Votes Coalition, a group of campus voting teams in the Greater Boston area working to advance citywide civic culture. Chris is also a member of the Harvard Stand Up Comics Society and helps to put together Leverett's Housing Day videos. Chris is interested in pursuing a career in civic tech, public interest tech, and/or tech policy. This summer, Chris is excited to be working as an intern in the Office of the Secretary at the US Department of Labor.

Aristotle Vainikos

He also enjoys competing on the Harvard model United Nations team and serving as a research assistant at HKS. This summer, he is thrilled to be working with the US State Department in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs.

Ryen Diaz

Ryen is a graduating senior in the Dudley community, originally from York, Nebraska. She studies Social Studies with a secondary in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, and she recently defended her senior thesis on the criminalization of humanitarian aid along the U.S.-Mexico border. On campus, Ryen is on the board of her a cappella group, the Harvard Lowkeys, has served as a IOP liaison fellow twice, works as a research assistant at the Office for International Affairs, and is an active member of the International Relations Council. After graduation, Ryen is excited to continue into the field of human rights policy and advocacy work, starting with an internship at the Executive Office for UN Aids, based in Geneva, Switzerland. She looks forward to learning first-hand about the world of international diplomacy, development, and public service as she serves on teams responsible for humanitarian initiatives to fight HIV/Aids in refugee camps.

Simeon Sayer

At Harvard, he is an associate consultant for Harvard College Consulting group, and a policy analyst for Harvard Undergraduate Foreign Policy Initiative. He also writes for the Harvard Political Review, and has been involved in the IOP Policy groups. He enjoys playing the trumpet, and do so in the Harvard University Band, where he is also webmaster. Simeon is interested in the intersection of technology and policy, and hopes to explore this relationship further in his remaining years at Harvard.

On campus, she is the Director of Organizing for the Harvard Votes Challenge, a non-partisan, student-led organization striving to reach 100% voter engagement at Harvard! She is also the Campus Outreach Director for the Harvard Democrats, junior staffer for Harvard Model Congress (Boston and Asia), contributing writer for the Crimson Arts, and historical tour guide for the Harvard Visitor Center. In her free time, she is an avid K-pop listener (Apink and Red Velvet), soccer superfan (USWNT and Arsenal WFC), and cross-stitch enthusiast. This summer, June is elated to be working with the United State of Women to research and promote gender equity and intersectionality!

Carson Kurad

On campus, she is Columns Editor at The Harvard Crimson, a Radcliffe Research Partner, a member of the Honor Council, and a citizenship tutor at the IOP. Last summer, she greatly enjoyed a Director’s Internship at the Congressional Research Service at the Library of Congress and is so excited to participate in this program for a second summer, splitting her time between the US Conference of Mayors and the New Frontier Awards at the IOP.

William Swett

William Swett is a rising senior in Leverett House concentrating in philosophy, with a focus on epistemology, 20th century European philosophy and ethics. William is pursuing his interest in ethics as an Undergraduate Fellow at the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics. He also studies double bass at New England Conservatory and plays in a number of ensembles on Harvard’s campus, including the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra and The Brattlestreet Chamber Players. This summer, he is excited to be interning for Judge Caproni in the Southern District of New York.

Choetsow Tenzin

Choetsow Tenzin is a sophomore associated with Lowell house studying Social Studies with a secondary in Education. Growing up as a Tibetan American she has always been interested in international issues and the intersection of culture and politics. Some particular issues she cares about are student mental health, prison reformation in the United States, education reform, immigration, and human rights. She is a proud member of the IOP family, serving as one of the current co-chairs of the Politics of Race and Ethnicity program and member of the Policy Writing. This summer Choetsow is honored to receive an IOP summer stipend and have the opportunity to work with the USAID's Bureau of Conflict Prevention and Stabilization to further pursue her passions.

Olivia Morris

Olivia Morris is a rising senior in Eliot House from Queens, NY. She studies Neuroscience with a secondary in Global Health and Health Policy, and plans on receiving a citation in Spanish. On campus, Olivia is a currently a Co-Chair of the IOP’s Policy Program, where she previously served as leadership for the Program’s Education Policy team for four research projects. Olivia is also a Co-Captain of the Women’s Club Basketball team, and is involved with the Global Alliance for Medical Innovation, Green Medicine Initiative, and Small Claims Advisory Service. She is passionate about building stronger bridges between science and government, in particular by finding ways to get more scientists involved in policymaking and improving the way that scientific research is communicated to the public. This summer, Olivia is excited to be working with Vot-ER, where she will be helping to integrate civic engagement into the culture of medicine.

Eric Forteza

When We All Vote/ My School Votes

Eric Forteza is a rising senior in Cabot House and is planning to concentrate in Government. He is originally from Cuba but lives with his family in Miami, Florida. On campus, Eric is involved in the Harvard Political Union, the Campaigns and Advocacy Program, the Harvard Undergraduate Latinxs in Finance & Technology, the Harvard Cuban-American Undergraduate Students Association, and will be serving as Co-President of Democracy Matters in the 2021-2022 academic year. During the 2021 spring semester, Eric has worked as a Student Organizer for UN-PAC, an organization of students and young people mobilizing college and high school campuses to advocate for S.1., or For The People Act. This summer, Eric is very excited to be working with My School Votes, an umbrella program in When We All Vote, where he will help mobilize high school students in Miami-Dade to be more civically engaged by registering to vote and making a plan to vote in every election.

Iman Alshawk

At Harvard, Iman partakes in various activities such as tutoring at the Academic Resource Center and participating in pre-professional, religious, and cultural organizations such as Women in Computer Science, Harvard Undergraduate Foreign Policy Initiative, Harvard Islamic Society, etc. This summer, Iman is extremely excited to join the Community Outreach Team at the World Bank where she hopes to utilize her technical background to further her interest in volunteerism and philanthropy.

Alexis M. Briano

Alexis M. Briano is a junior in Quincy House concentrating in Biomedical Engineering with a Government Secondary. She is Co-Founder of a volunteering initiative, Science Playdates, which aims to bridge the gender gap in STEAM through workshops and guest speakers. She is also conducting research in Dr. Madsen’s Neurodynamics Laboratory through Boston Children’s Hospital on Granger Causality and it’s stability over time. At Harvard, she is an Executive Board Member in the Quincy Philosophical Society QPS, where I help decide the topics we discuss for the semester and moderate a discussion. She is also involved with the Women in Leadership Program, Harvard Political Union, Women in STEM Mentorship Program, and Harvard MAPS Physician Remote Shadowing/Mentoring Program. She is also pre-med and plans to become a neurosurgeon.
