Sophia Kaufman

Sophia Kaufman is a rising senior at Harvard University majoring in social anthropology, with a minor in global health and health policy, and a language citation in Swahili. A West Virginia native, she is passionate about equal healthcare access and quality. She has worked with the Fort Peck Native American Reservation, in Montana, addressing recruitment and retention within healthcare professional careers, as well as worked with an NGO in Tanzania, combatting HIV/AIDS as a researcher and educator. In her community in West Virginia she has worked with the Department of Health and Human Resources Bureau for Public Health. Her experiences working with people from marginalized communities has fortified her understanding of the importance of healthcare. This summer, she will be interning with the Global Fund, in Geneva Switzerland, within the Monitoring & Evaluation, and Country Analysis team (MECA), Strategy, Investment, and Impact Division. She will be conducting health policy research and bioanalysis looking at policy effectiveness and disease trends in order to address AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria epidemics.
