Sam Reiss is a rising senior in Leverett House originally from Los Angeles, California. He studies History and Literature in the American Studies field. Passionate about civil rights, Sam served as chair of the Citizenship Tutoring Program at the Institute of Politics and worked for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Immigrants’ Rights Project and the Delancey Street Foundation, a rehabilitation center for convicted violent criminals. Sam served as Publisher of the Harvard Advocate in 2016 and continues to contribute poetry to the magazine. This summer, he will work for the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Alabama as a criminal justice reform legal intern, focusing specifically on a class action lawsuit to improve the medical and mental health care in Alabama’s prison system. Sam plans to pursue a career in public interest law and writing.
