Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Washington DC
2014

Rachel Sandalow-Ash is a rising senior in Lowell House concentrating in Social Studies from Brookline, MA. For the past three years she has been a part of the Student Labor Action Movement, working alongside Harvard employees on and off-campus to ensure fair wages and benefits, the right to a fair process to decide on unionization, and protection from all forms of discrimination at work. Rachel is also a research assistant at the Harvard School of Public Health, a former chair of the Harvard College Progressive Jewish Alliance, and the former editor-in-chief of Perspective Magazine, Harvard's progressive monthly. This summer, Rachel is excited to intern in the DC office of the Service Employees International Union, the union which represents Harvard's custodians and security guards. She will work on - among other campaigns - the "Fight for $15" campaign to raise the minimum wage to $15/hour, and she is looking forward to connecting her academic work and on-campus activism to this national-level fight for economic justice.
