Karla Alvarado

Karla Alvarado is a native of Chelsea, Massachusetts and a resident of Cabot House. Karla is a History and Literature concentrator with a focus on Latin America. Karla is one of the chairs of the Politics of Race and Ethnicity at the IOP and hopes to use her role to start a greater dialogue about the importance of race and politics, at Harvard and beyond. In particular, she is interested in how different policies affect black and brown people in the United States and how these communities get involved in the political process.The daughter of two immigrants from Honduras, Karla is extremely passionate about immigration reform in the U.S. Outside of her position at the Institute of Politics, Karla enjoys running and photography. This summer, Karla will be interning at the Obama Foundation and hopes to learn more about how the Foundation and entities like it work within our political system today. Additionally, she looks forward to living in the nation's capital and exploring D.C.'s food scene
