Jose DelReal is a rising senior in Lowell House from Anchorage, Alaska. He is concentrating in Social Studies (focusing on modern American cultural and political thought) and is pursuing a secondary in History of Art and Architecture. While his interests are varied, he is particularly intrigued by the intersection of civic life, social institutions, and political signification. On campus, Jose keeps himself busy writing for The Harvard Crimson and doing research on election laws for the Institute of Quantitative Social Science. Jose is very excited to intern at The New Republic. An avid news and political junkie, he believes good journalism is a crucial part of democratic government that should always aspire to foster and sustain open and honest public discourse. He also thinks that as social media continues to change how we access information, the old Arthur Miller adage that “a good newspaper is a nation talking to itself” is more important to uphold than ever. He is thrilled to have the fantastic opportunity to see the ins-and-outs of TNR this summer.
