Jillian Smith is a rising junior in Cabot House concentrating in History with a secondary field in Celtic Literature and Languages. She is a native of Duxbury, MA. This summer, Jillian will be working for Mayor Thomas Menino’s Press Office in Boston, MA. She is looking forward to learning more about municipal government, as well as the intersection between government and media. She is particularly interested in the role that media plays in our government and how public perception is formed. She is also excited to experience public service first hand, which she hopes to explore as a career. Jillian is active in student life and service at Harvard by serving as the Cabot House Committee Co-Chairman and a member of the College Events Board. She is also actively involved in service outside of Harvard, as a Christian doctrine teacher at St. Paul’s Parish and a senior counselor at the Massachusetts Girls’ State program. She is thrilled to serve the citizens of Boston this summer in the Mayor’s Press Office, and to learn more about public service in municipal government.
