Jalem Towler, a rising sophomore in Mather House, was born and raised in Conyers, Georgia. He is thinking about concentrating in History of Science with a possible secondary in Sociology. Jalem is passionate about youth development and entertainment, illustrated by his involvement in dramatic arts and the Summer Urban Program. He is also a part of S.O.L., Speak Out Loud, a spoken word group on campus and enjoys writing poetry, music and novels in his free time. Service has also been important to him, since high school when we worked for Kumon, an after school, learning program for children in and around his hometown. This summer, Jalem is pumped to be directing Roxbury Youth Initiative, a camp in the Summer Urban Program through the Phillips Brooks House Association. Throughout the summer, he will be traveling to Roxbury, Massachusetts every day to host a summer learning enrichment camp designed to prevent summer learning loss, encourage self-expression and improve self-worth for 80 kids ages 6 to 13 in and around the Roxbury area.
