Anthony Almazan is a rising junior in Currier House concentrating in Chemistry. Originally from Sacramento, California, he will be travelling to Western Uganda to aid in clinical capacity building in the town of Mbarara. Among other things, he will be updating communications systems and using GPS technology to identify geographic determinants of disease transmission. Outside of the classroom, he manages volunteers working to provide health education in Boston high schools as the Co-Coordinator of Peer Health Exchange, conducts research on HIV transmission, and enjoys traditional Filipino dance. Having developed a keen interest in technology, health, and infectious diseases, he is looking forward to applying technological methods to help advance our understanding of health challenges in Western Uganda.
