ABOUT: The Office of Accountability, Performance and Innovation (API) works to make the City of Syracuse more effective and equitable for residents by catalyzing City government to be more responsive, experimental, and informed by evidence. Throughout our seven years of existence, API has partnered with countless departments and used methodologies ranging from user centered design, data analytics, performance management, project management, and more, to achieve our mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES & PROJECTS: 

The intern will be expected to work in a team setting, attend project meetings, and conduct work autonomously. This internship will give an opportunity to make an impact by participating in one or more of our programs (depending on skillset and interest):

EXPERIMENTAL AND RESPONSIVE GOVERNMENT - Innovation portfolio: Change management initiatives with other city departments - Innovation academy: Public sector innovation challenge open to all city employees - Project Management Office: Compilation of best practices and resources

RESPONSIBLE USE OF DATA FOR PUBLIC IMPACT - Open Data Portal: Make data accessible and open, spurring community-driven innovation - Data Infrastructure & Governance: Scale the City’s capacity to share, integrate and analyze administrative data - Surveillance Technology Oversight: Ensure proper oversight of new and in-use data-collection technologies - What Works Cities: Push the City to the highest standards of data-driven government

HIGH PERFORMING CITY GOVERNMENT - Senior Staff Objective and Key Results (OKRs): Define policy goals and priorities across all City portfolios to advance the Mayor’s agenda - Mayoral Dashboard Key Performance Indicator (KPIs): Work with departments to measure their performance in a timely and meaningful way - American Rescue Plan ACT (ARPA) performance management: Ensure the data-driven implementation of American Rescue Plan funds

SKILLS: Graphic Design, Coding & Programming, Statistical & Data Analysis. Given the scope of our portfolio we are open to welcoming interns with a variety of different skill sets. A passion for change management and data is helpful, though coding experience is not required.
