Issues Facing the Transgender Community: Progress, Backlash, and Paths Forward

Join us in the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum for a discussion on the increased visibility of transgender people, the progress in securing transgender rights, the backlash that has taken place as a result, and ways that people can support transgender rights and lives moving forward. The Forum will feature a panel of guests who can speak to these issues in the United States and around the world, including:

  • Alexander Chen HLS '15 (he/him), founding director of the LGBTQ+ Advocacy Clinic at Harvard Law School;
  • Jen Manion (they/them), professor of history and sexuality and women's and gender studies at Amherst College;
  • Nicholas Opiyo (he/him), Carr Center fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School Carr Center for Human Rights Policy;
  • Erica Chenoweth (they/them), Frank Stanton Professor of the First Amendment at Harvard Kennedy School and Susan S. and Kenneth L. Wallach Professor at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Studies at Harvard University

Please register by Tuesday, September 20 if you would like the possibility of attending this event in-person. Registrants will be notified by 5:00 PM ET that day if a seat is available for them in the venue.

If a seat is unavailable or you will not be attending in person, registrants can stream the event live via our YouTube, Twitter, or Facebook pages. You do not need to register for virtual attendance.

The Institute of Politics follows all HKS health and safety protocols, including COVID vaccination, testing, and quarantine guidelines. Masks are no longer required at HKS events, but anyone who wishes to wear a mask should feel free to do so. The Forum is currently closed to people without a Harvard ID, and RSVPs are required for in-person attendance.
