Monday, November 1, 2021 - 6:00pm to 7:00pm11/01/2021 6:00pm 11/01/2021 7:00pm The Facebook Files: Are teens and democratic societies at risk?

Over the past two months, the Wall Street Journal’s “Facebook Files” series has chronicled the ways that Facebook and its platforms favor elites, harm teenagers’ mental health, encourage toxicity, take weak action to stop human trafficking and drug cartels, suppress political movements, and ignore the concerns of their employees that Facebook can clean up its act. On Monday, November 1, 2021, the lead reporter of the “Facebook Files,” WSJ reporter Jeff Horwitz, will join us in the John F. Kennedy, Jr. Forum to discuss his groundbreaking reporting on the harm that Facebook may be inflicting on its users and democracy. Dr. Latanya Sweeney, the Daniel Paul Professor of the Practice of Government and Technology at the Harvard Kennedy School, will moderate the conversation.

Please RSVP by 8:00 PM ET on Sunday, October 31st. You must register using our RSVP link if you’d like the possibility of attending in person. We will notify you via email if you will be joining us in person or online.

The Institute of Politics will be strictly observing all HKS COVID health and safety protocols. HKS buildings including the Forum are closed to the general public and attendance will be limited to the 100-person posted room capacity. Harvard IDs and RSVPs are required for in-person attendance. Unvaccinated persons should make every effort to practice social distancing. Masks must be worn at all times, except for quick sips of beverages. Food will not be allowed in the venue.
