On Tuesday, September 15th at 6pm ET, join the IOP for a conversation titled: From Al Qaeda to QAnon: The Rise of Hate and Extremist Ideology Post 9/11.

Nineteen years have passed since the tragic attacks on September 11, 2001. Are we safer today? Though billions have been spent on gathering intelligence, blocking financial assets, and trying to stop radicalization, extremist ideology is still thriving. Recruits are getting younger. "Hate armies" are growing in America and around the world. What are the solutions to this expanding threat and what lessons have we learned from 9/11? Have we made progress in the fight against extremism? Why is countering violent extremism important? Why are violent far-right extremists surging in the 21st century?

Panelists will explore the threat we face today and what can be done on a city, national, and international level to stop the rise of hate and extremism. The conversation will be moderated by Garrett M. Graff,  Journalist and Author, THE ONLY PLANE IN THE SKY: An Oral History of 9/11, and feature panelists:
  • Anurima Bhargava, Vice-Chair of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom
  • Farah Pandith, Former first-ever U.S. Special Representative to Muslim Communities
  • Juan Zarate, Former Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for Combatting Terrorism, Global Co-Managing Partner K2 Intelligence/Financial Integrity Network
Please RSVP HERE. Harvard students, staff, and faculty should include their Harvard email to receive a Zoom link. All external participants will receive a Facebook Live link to tune in. The IOP will share a confirmation by 2pm ET on Tuesday, September 15th.
