The withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan and the ensuing takeover by the Taliban have led to intense reactions and debates worldwide. Twenty years after 9/11, what does this mean for homeland security and U.S. foreign policy? How should Americans reflect on the immense contributions and sacrifices made in Afghanistan – and how can we best promote human rights there going forward? Harvard Kennedy School Dean Doug Elmendorf will host former Secretary of Defense and Belfer Center Director Ash Carter for a conversation about these and other issues related to Afghanistan. Co-sponsored by the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.

Please RSVP by 12:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 6th if you’d like the possibility of attending in person. We will notify you via email if you will be joining us in person or online. We will be strictly observing the HKS health and safety protocols that include a maximum venue capacity of 100 attendees.
