Advancing Racial Justice in Philanthropy: Aspiration or Reality?

On Wednesday, March 23, join the Institutional Antiracism and Accountability (IARA) Project at the Ash Center in the virtual JFK Jr. Forum for a discussion with leaders in the field of philanthropy about how foundations are working to advance racial justice and contend with its own colorblindness and white-dominant culture. We will hear from Crystal Hayling, executive director of the Libra Foundation, which partners with groups working towards justice and equity; Rajasvini Bhansali, executive director of the Solidaire Network, a community of donor organizers mobilizing around the intersectional movements of racial, gender and climate justice; and Amoretta Morris (HKS '09), president of Borealis Philanthropy, a social justice philanthropic intermediary working to resource grassroots movements for transformative change. Carmen Rojas, president and CEO at Marguerite Casey Foundation, will moderate.
This forum is a part of the Reckoning with the Past, Rebuilding the Future speaker series co-hosted by the Institutional Antiracism and Accountability (IARA) Project at the Ash Center and the Institute of Politics (IOP). Featuring prominent scholars, advocates, and leaders in the field, this series critically examines the past year of promises of institutional antiracist change and how more truthful teaching of American history can lead to social transformation. Join us to answer the questions: What has been done? What is the real impact? What work should we be doing? How do we, as individuals, institutions, and policymakers leverage new awareness and commitments around racial equity in order to dismantle structural racism in the United States?
