Tina Flournoy
Tina Flournoy is Assistant to the President for Public Policy at the American Federation of Teachers, an international union representing over 1.4 million members. In that capacity she directs the work of the AFT’s legislative, political, field and mobilization and human rights and community outreach departments. She is also a member of the AFT’s internal operating committee.
Flournoy has over 25 years of experience in management, government relations and legal and legislative matters in both the private and public sectors.
Flournoy has held legal and political positions with the Democratic Party, including serving as the head of Governor Howard Dean’s Democratic National Committee transition team, traveling chief of staff to 2000 Democratic vice presidential nominee, Senator Joseph Lieberman, Finance Director for the Gore 2000 Presidential Campaign, Deputy to the Campaign Manager in the 1996 Clinton/Gore Campaign and Chief Counsel in both the White House Office of Presidential Personnel and the 1992 Clinton/Gore Presidential Transition Office. Flournoy also served as General Counsel for the 1992 Democratic National Convention and as part of the management team that oversaw all aspects of planning for the Convention. Prior to joining the Convention team, Flournoy was Counsel for the DNC under Chairmen Paul Kirk and Ron Brown.
From August 1984 through August 1985, Flournoy served as law clerk to the Honorable Julia Cooper Mack of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.
Affiliated with a number of professional and civic organizations, Flournoy, a DNC member and Past Co-Chair and current member of the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee, served as a member of the Democratic National Committee’s Commission on Presidential Nomination Timing and Scheduling.
