Tiffany D. Cross has spent two decades navigating media and policy in the nation’s capital. She is the Co-Founder of The Beat DC, a platform intersecting national politics, policy, business, media, and all people of color. With a readership comprising influencers across the country, Tiffany makes fast moving current affairs digestible for the political connoisseur or novice alike. The platform represents the nexus of Tiffany’s unique ability to connect directly with diverse audiences, offering a thoughtful critique of policy and politics and unique insight on a myriad of issues through the lens of diversity and inclusion. Tiffany frequently offers critical political analysis on MSNBC, CNN and SiriusXM. Her book, Say It Louder: Black Voters, Our Voices, and the Shaping of American Democracy is due out in July (Harper/Collins).
Tiffany’s broad experience across media and policy includes running the DC Bureau for BET News and serving as a Field Producer for several other outlets. She cut her teeth in media at CNN where she worked as an Associate Producer for the network’s weekend shows covering Capitol Hill. She also spent five years as a Senior Adviser to the National Education Association. Tiffany has lent her expertise to numerous local, state, and federal candidates as well as issue campaigns.
Her study group will examine how the power structure of democracy and the media landscape must become more equitable, by evolution or by force, as the country barrels its way towards a more diverse voting electorate. Making the complicated ongoings of the nation’s capital more consumable, Tiffany will lead students in discussions on the historical resistance to the inevitable changes that come with this type of culture shift, the role the media played in advancing (or attempting to stop) change, and how history is repeating itself today.
