Neil Staebler has been active in Michigan and national Democratic politics for over a quarter of a century. Mr. Staebler is a former oil distributor, coal dealer, house constructor, and president of Michigan Capital & Service, Inc. He served as a member of the President's Commission on Campaign Costs, as a U.S. Representative-at-large for Michigan for one year, and was the Democratic candidate for Governor of Michigan in 1964. Mr. Staebler has also served as chairman of the Democratic State Central Committee of Michigan, chairman of the Democratic National Advisory Committee on Political Organization, and is currently a member of the Democratic National Finance Council and the National Democratic Charter Commission. He is the author of How to Argue with a Conservative and papers on politics of India, Japan, Chile, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
