Lynn Martin was sworn in as our Nation's 21st Secretary of Labor on February 22, 1991. Prior to serving as Secretary of Labor, Ms. Martin represented the 16th District of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 to 1991. During her ten year tenure, she served on the powerful House Rules Committee, the Armed Services Committee, the Budget Committee, and was chosen for the position of Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference. Ms. Martin's career in politics began in 1972 when she was elected to the Winnebago County board, where she served for four years. She then served in the Illinois House from 1977-1979 and in the Illinois Senate from 1979-81.
