Lana Pollack is the Michigan Environmental Council President. An active political organizer and former teacher of dance, Ms. Pollack wad elected to the Ann Arbor School Board in 1979. In 1982 she was elected to the Michigan State Senate, where she served until 1994 on the Appropriations, Finance, Education, and Criminal Justice and Urban Affairs Committees. In 1994, Ms. Pollack narrowly lost the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate and retired from public office. She worked as a consultant for the National Democratic Institute, was a founding trustee of the Michigan Women's Foundation, and is now on the governing boards of the University of Michigan Hillel Foundation and the Olga Madar Association for Participatory Democracy.
