George Gilder is the legislative assistant and speechwriter for Senator Charles Mathias of Maryland, a Republican. He earlier wrote speeches for Governor Nelson Rockefeller of New York, Senator Jacob Javits of New York, Governor George Romney of Michigan, and in 1968 for Richard Nixon's campaign for President. After graduating Harvard College in 1962, Mr. Gilder founded and edited Advance, a journal of Republican thought. He has contributed articles and reviews to several journals, and is author, with Bruce K. Chapman, of The Party That Lost Its Head.
