Algernon Johnson Cooper, Jr. is the mayor of Prichard, Alabama and its Chief Executive Officer. Before assuming office in 1972, Mr. Cooper was a partner at Crawford, Fields and Cooper, Attorneys-at-Law. From 1969 to 1970 he was at the N.A.A.C.P. Legal Defense Fund and was the National Director of the Black American Law Students Association from 1967 to 1969. From March to June 1968, Mr. Cooper was a staff assistant to Senator Robert F. Kennedy.
