Join us for a special candid conversation with the Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and current Ambassador of Brazil on trade and foreign Relations in the current geopolitical context.

GUEST: Ambassador Carlos Franca, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and current Ambassador of Brazil, will join Resident Fellow, Minister Erika Mouynes, in-person for the April 12 session.

From September 1999 to September 2011, Carlos França served as diplomat in the Brazilian missions to the United States, Paraguay and Bolivia. Before his appointment as Minister of State, he held the positions of Head of the Science, Technology and Innovation Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2017), Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2018), Chief of Protocol for the Office of the President of the Republic of Brazil (2019) and Chief Advisor to the President for Foreign Affairs (2020).  

His private sector experience took place between March 2015 and March 2017, as Director of Corporate Affairs and Strategic Business at AG S.A., the holding company of the Brazilian multinational engineering & infrastructure group Andrade Gutierrez. From June 2021 to April 2023, he was a member of the Board of Directors of Itaipu Binacional, the Stateowned power generation & transmission company jointly run by the governments of Brazil and Paraguay. 

França was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs on March 31st, 2021; succeeding minister Ernesto Araújo, and remained in office until December 31st, 2022.
