What does leadership look like when race and gender shape not only how power is exercised, but how it is judged? We will trace Mayor Tishaura O. Jones' political journey and will examine how governing as a “first” reshapes authority, magnifies scrutiny, and influences public perception and policymaking—revealing what American democracy demands of those who challenge its traditional image of leadership.
