Study Group with Governor Asa Hutchinson: Europe's View of American Leadership and Politics - Should Our European Allies Worry About the Future of America's Global Leadership? Is There Anything We Can Learn from Europe's Multi-Party System?
Description
REGISTRATION CLOSED
This session will be broadcast from Paris after meetings with Parliamentary leaders in Germany and France. We will focus on the contrast between the European world view versus the American world view on issues including security, climate, and the economy. This discussion will analyze the uniqueness of American two-party system and its future as compared to the European model.*
GUEST: Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy (D-Fla) will join resident fellow, Governor Asa Hutchinson, virtually, for the session on October 3.
Stephanie Murphy made history as the first Vietnamese American woman ever elected to the US House of Representatives and served three terms from 2017 to 2023. She distinguished herself as a legislator who bridged partisan divides, focusing on trade, national security, infrastructure, and climate change. With a background in finance and national security, including roles at the U.S. Department of Defense, Murphy now advises executives on public policy and global business strategies. She is a political contributor on the BBC and frequently appears on major news networks like Bloomberg, MSNBC, and CNN.
AUDIENCE: These conversations are open to members of the Harvard community. Please RSVP with a valid Harvard email address.
OFF-THE-RECORD: In keeping with our long tradition at the IOP to ensure honest and candid discussions of politics, all IOP study groups are off-the-record.
