  1. The Road to Citizenship

    Moderator Douglas Elmendorf, Dean and Don K. Price Professor of Public Policy, Harvard Kennedy School, was joined by Retired Four Star General Stanley McChrystal, founder of the McChrystal Group for the 2017 Pollak Lecture. In his lecture, General McChrystal discussed an array of issues relating to the road to citizenship in the United States, including the promise of the youngest generation of Americans and the difficulties that come along with redefining citizenship. General McChrystal also took questions from the audience on barriers to transformative change and how his military experience has contributed to his worldview.

  3. Undergraduate Pizza and Politics: ​Ted Osius '84, US Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

    Join us for a dinner discussion with U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius

    Ted Osius currently serves as the United States Ambassador to Vietnam. He graduated from Harvard College in 1984, before receiving a master’s in international economics and U.S. foreign policy at Johns Hopkins University. Early in his career, he served in Manila, Vatican City, and the UN, and in 1997, he helped set up the U.S. consulate in Ho Chi Minh City. He served as Deputy Director of the Office of Korean Affairs in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Political Minister-Counselor in New Delhi, India, and Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, before being nominated by President Obama for his ambassadorship in 2014. He has served since his Senate confirmation in November 2014 and is the first openly gay U.S. Ambassador to East Asia. 

    All Harvard students (regardless of IOP affiliation) are invited.

    Moderator Christopher Robichaud, Lecturer in Ethics and Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School, and former Attorney General of the United States, Harvard College graduate of the class of ’81 and Harvard Law School graduate of the class of ’84, Loretta E. Lynch, discuss the leadership lessons Attorney General Lynch took away from her positions in office, the need for communication and transparency between law enforcement and the judiciary and local citizens, the War on Drugs, the dynamic between the Trump Administration and the judiciary, and civil rights issues.

    President of the Republic of Mauritius Ameenah Gurib-Fakim joined moderator Archon Fung, Academic Dean and Ford Foundation Professor of Democracy and Citizenship, Harvard Kennedy School, to discuss the goals and challenges facing the Republic of Mauritius. President Gurib-Fakim also discussed her personal and political life in Mauritius and took questions from the audience regarding Africa, the United States, and women in politics.
