Before joining Facebook, James was a Policy Advisor at the US Small Business Administration, served on President Obama's Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force, and worked on the economic policy team at the Center for American Progress. James holds a JD from Stanford and a BA from Harvard.

The event will be moderated by Massachusetts State Senator Eric Lesser, who leads the “Hi! I’m Running for Office” series at Harvard Kennedy School. The discussion will cover campaign strategy and the "politics" of policy-making.
ABOUT DAVID AXELROD:
A University of Chicago alumnus, David Axelrod is a veteran of American politics and journalism and the former chief strategist and senior advisor to President Barack Obama. He currently serves as director of the University of Chicago's non-partisan Institute of Politics; senior political commentator for CNN; and host of The Axe Files, a top-rated podcast jointly produced by CNN and his institute. Axelrod, a former political writer for the Chicago Tribune and, later, media strategist for 150 state, local and national political campaigns, is also the author of The New York Times best-selling memoir, "Believer: My Forty Years in Politics.”
ABOUT ERIC LESSER
Eric P. Lesser was first elected to the Massachusetts Senate on November 4, 2014 and reelected in 2016. He is Senate Chairman of the Joint Committee on Economic Development & Emerging Technologies. Prior to becoming a state Senator, Lesser worked in the Obama White House, first as Special Assistant to Senior Adviser David Axelrod, and later as Director of Strategic Planning for the President’s Council of Economic Advisers. Lesser began as a young aide on President Obama’s historic 2008 presidential campaign, and was described as “the face of the promised Obama political generation” by the New York Times. Senator Lesser has a law degree from Harvard Law School and a bachelor’s degree in government from Harvard College. He is a Fellow with the Truman National Security Project and NewDEAL, and is a World Economic Forum Global Shaper. -

Marlon Marshall has been active in organizing for the Democratic Party for over a decade. On the Obama 2012 campaign, he served as the Deputy National Field Director and achieved unprecedented targeted voter registration. After the Obama campaign, he founded 270 Strategies, a consulting firm to help campaigns capitalize on grassroots organizing. Most recently, he worked as the Director of State Campaigns and Political Engagement of Hillary for America.
Chris Young has devoted himself to campaigns since graduating college. Initially working on the Bobby Jindal campaign in Louisiana, he worked his way from Deputy Field Director to Field Director. Beginning in 2013, he assumed the position of State Director of Louisiana at the RNC and two years later became the RNC's National Field Director. Currently, he works as Executive Director of Secure Nevada's Future, which aims to educate Nevadians underrepresented in civic life about the importance of conservative principles.

During his eighth study group of the semester, Scott will be joined by Michael Adams, general counsel to the Republican Governor's Association, for a discussion of the current system of campaign finance laws. He'll discuss changes in campaign finance over the course of legislation and court decisions in recent years and answer attendees' questions on the topic and his extensive legal experience.
