Description: Since the 2016 elections, nearly $1 Billion has been spent on new equipment to administer elections. From voting machines to electronic poll books, the first generation of election equipment with cybersecurity in mind is now being used in the 2020 elections. Just how secure are these systems and what are election officials doing to learn from problematic technology rollouts to maintain trust and confidence in US elections? Mark Harvey will lead a group activity to examine election systems in light of cybersecurity standards. Come evaluate how the variety of new systems that have been deployed across the country are configured and used to heighten election security.
IOP Resident Fellow Mark P. Harvey is the former Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Resilience Policy on the National Security Council Staff, and over the past 15 years, has helped author a wide variety of plans, policies, and doctrine to foster resilience through effective risk management.

Pizza and Politics, "Promoting and Expanding the LBGTI+ Contribution to National Security" with Shawn Skelly, Vice President and Co-Founder, Out in National Security
Friday March 6 - 1:00pmMs. Shawn Skelly is the Co-Founder of Out in National Security and served on active duty in the U.S. Navy for 20 years as a Naval Flight Officer, retiring with the rank of Commander. After a period in industry with ITT Exelis, she joined the Obama Administration in 2013, as the first transgender veteran to be appointed by a President of the United States. She first served as Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics at the U.S. Department of Defense, and ultimately as the Director of the Office of the Executive Secretariat at the U.S. Department of Transportation. In 2017, President Obama appointed Shawn to serve as a Commissioner on the newly established National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service. Shawn was recognized as one of a group of transgender veterans in the 2017 OUT100.
