    Panelists E.J. Dionne, Jr., an opinion writer for The Washington Post and William H. Bloomberg Visiting Professor of the Harvard Divinity School and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, journalist Sally Quinn, author of Finding Magic: A Spiritual Memoir and Jonathan L. Walton, Plummer Professor of Christian Morals and Pusey Minister in the Memorial Church and Professor of Religion and Society at the Harvard Divinity School, joined moderator Nicco Mele, a Lecturer in Public Policy and Director of the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics, and Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School, for a panel discussion to reflect on the role of the Prosperity Gospel in President Donald J. Trump's political rise and administration. The panelists discussed the theological underpinnings of the Prosperity Gospel, as well as its historical place in American religion and politics.

    Panelists LCDR Brynn Tannehill, Veteran, USN, CPT Jennifer Peace, US Army, Cpt Moshe Avi, USMC Reserves, and SGT Laila Ireland, US Army (ret), shared with the forum personal experiences and perspectives on serving while transgender in the military. The panelists shared their own journey to joining the military while also providing their thoughts about the political uncertainty of the future of transgender members of the military. Professor and Academic Dean at Harvard Kennedy School, Archon Fung, moderated the forum.

    Derek Black, a former white nationalist activist, addressed the forum on the modern white nationalist movement in the wake of Charlottesville and the 2016 election. Derek spoke about his upbringing as the child of white nationalists and the evolution of his personal political beliefs. Elle Reeve, VICE News Correspondent, and Khalil Muhammad, professor of History, Race, and Public Policy, Harvard Kennedy School, moderated the discussion.

    CNN commentator Van Jones addressed the John F. Kennedy Forum on how the progressive movement should respond and move forward from the past election. Van Jones emphasized the need for patience and understanding on the part of the progressive movement to be able to reevaluate and learn from the results of the past election. Jones believes that more conversations between the left and right will lead to a more united and politically healthy country. This forum was moderated by Public Service Professor of the Harvard Kennedy School, David Gergen.

    Jordan Klepper, host of "Opposition with Jordan Klepper" and correspondent for "The Daily Show," spoke in a conversation style forum with Jesse Shelburne, President of the Institute of Politics Student Advisory Committee, and Sharon Yang, Vice President of the Institute of Politics Student Advisory Committee. In addition to speaking about his new television program "Opposition with Jordan Klepper," and Mr. Klepper spoke about how he got involved in comedy after college. The audience was full of laughs when Mr. Klepper played the game “Support, Interview, Banish,” as well as when he answered audience questions ranging from his pet peeves (people chewing ice and being asked the same question) to how people react to his tall stature. When asked what advice he would give to college students attending the forum, Mr. Klepper said knowing what you know and what you don’t know is incredibly important, as it having the confidence to go with your instincts.

    Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, addressed the forum in an event moderated by Nicholas Burns, Professor of the Practice of Diplomacy and International Relations, and Lawrence H. Summers, Charles W. Eliot University Professor and President Emeritus at Harvard University. In her address, Madame Lagarde quoted President John F. Kennedy stating that “the time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining.” Mme. Lagarde adapted this statement to the economy, expressing that while our economy is currently experiencing an upswing, now is the time for reform. We must be proactive, not reactive. Additionally, Mme. Lagarde spoke about the importance of fighting corruption and climate change, empowering women, and addressing inequality.

    Professor Graham Allison, author of Destined for War: Can America and China Escape Thucydides's Trap?, examines the current tension between the United States and China over the issue of North Korea by applying the lessons learned from Cuban Missile Crisis. Prof. Allison examines how President Kennedy created the "third option" of closed-doors negotiations in order to avoid war, and how - if North Korea pushes the US and China to the brink of war - China and America might need to do the same. This forum was moderated by former Prime Minister of Australia, Kevin Rudd.

    Kristalina Georgieva, CEO of the World Bank, addressed the forum on the current challenges and successes of the global economy, including topics such as gender equality, global warming, poverty, and collective action. Ms. Georgieva also took questions from the audience on topics like maintaining a diverse and adaptable economy, restructuring policies, and the climate of international finance. Douglas Elmendorf, Dean of the Harvard Kennedy School, moderated the discussion.

    Secretary Betsy DeVos, 11th United States Secretary of Education, addressed the forum on the importance of giving parents the right to choose where their children attend school. Sec. DeVos spoke about how at this moment in time, she nor the rest of the America know exactly what the future of school choice looks like, but that it should be in the hands of parents. Sec. DeVos stated that she is committed to supporting a safe and nurturing learning environment for all, and that the first step toward achieving this goal is eliminating the biggest barrier to opportunity: school choice. Academic Dean and Ford Foundation Professor of Democracy and Citizenship, Archon Fung, as well as the Henry Lee Shattuck Professor of Government and Director of the Program on Education Policy and Governance at Harvard University, Paul Peterson, co-moderated the event.
