Crisis Comms: (Or: How spokespeople explain, or try to, when something’s gone wrong) - led by Doug Heye

Hillary Clinton’s email server (potential speaker: CNN Senior Congressional and Campaign Correspondent Dana Bash or Politico Chief Washington Correspondent Mike Allen)

This would likely be one of the first topics covered by the class, as it is the most current and could be continuing while the class meets. By discussing the case of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while at the Department of State with a reporter covering the campaign, the class will learn “the other side of the coin” – how reporters seek to obtain information during a crisis, what those avenues and obstacles may be and how, from a reporter’s perspective, the Clinton campaign (and all campaigns) can better handle these situations.
