Breaking Ground: Running as the “First” of your Community - led by Christine C. Quinn

Week One

Deciding to run when you are or could be a "first"

Deciding to run for office is not an easy decision. It requires one to calculate a number of factors, including your viability, chances of winning, and the impact the race (and the office, assuming you win) will have on you personally, as well as on your family. When you are a "first," you have the added impact of determining how that unique characteristic will affect the election and how a defeat will impact your community's overall civil right efforts.
