Freddie Tunnard

Director of Strategic Initiatives

Freddie Tunnard is the Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Institute of Politics. She joined the IOP after more than a decade at NBC News, where she most recently served as Political Coverage Director. In that role, she led network-wide coverage of some of the most consequential moments in recent American history, including the 2024 presidential election and the assassination attempts of President Trump. Her work has earned multiple Emmy nominations and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Live Breaking News Coverage following the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Over her twelve years at NBC News and MSNBC, Freddie traveled the country and the world, covering presidential summits and connecting with American voters from over thirty states. She held a series of senior editorial roles, overseeing coverage of the White House and managing field teams on the campaign trail. She is a graduate of Columbia University and lives in Cambridge with her family and two rescue dogs.
