Modernizing Our Democracy: The Political and Policy Implications of the Digital Age - led by Matt Lira

Description

Week Six: Citizenville—Government as a Platform

Guest: Jascha Franklin-Hodge, Chief Information Officer at City of Boston

The way our society communicates is fundamentally changing; yet, a citizen’s relationship with government is still largely defined by the limits of an industrial age bureaucracy. Fortunately, cities and states around the country have begun to reform—they aren’t waiting for the federal government to act. From standardizing and publishing real-time data to creating APIs connected to government services, the most dynamic progress is happening at this level.
How can technology modernize state and local government?
What is working right now in cities around the country?
What is the vision for government services in ten years? In twenty years? How
can reformers navigate bureaucratic complexity to achieve a more transparent, open government?
