Danielle Etzel is interning with the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Patient Safety and Risk Management Unit under the supervision of Dr. Neelam Dhingra. In October 2004, the WHO launched its Patient Safety program in an effort to coordinate, disseminate, and accelerate improvements worldwide in patient safety, which is a critical global healthcare issue. As part of her internship, Danielle will be attending the World Health Assembly in addition to her work on the creation of the Patient Safety Assessment Tool and the Monitoring and Evaluating Framework for the newest challenge titled Medication without Harm. The program provides a vehicle for international collaboration and action between Member States, experts, NGOs, and more. As an economics major, biology minor, and pre-medical student-athlete, Danielle is excited to build on previous experiences to learn how to help catalyze change as part of a larger organization.
