Congressman Juan Vargas (D-CA) seeks a legislative intern for the summer semester in his Washington DC office. Interns work in a fast-paced congressional office and gain valuable exposure and knowledge of the legislative process within the United States Congress. Interns work directly with the legislative, communications and scheduling staff to lead various office projects. Interns are provided with the opportunity to conduct legislative research, draft constituent correspondence, attend legislative briefings, congressional hearings, receptions and press events. Other responsibilities include managing constituent phone calls, gathering daily press clip and assisting staff with other administrative duties.
Requirements: Interns must have a good attitude, strong work ethic, and excellent written and oral communication skills. Successful interns will be able to perform tasks with limited supervision, work both independently as well as in a team, and possess a strong attention to detail. Applicants should have working knowledge of current events and policy topics, as well as a willingness to perform a variety of tasks and administrative functions.
