Mark S. Shields

Mark Shields most recently served as political co-director for Muskie For President. Mr. Shields began his career in politics as a legislative assistant to U.S. Senator William Proxmire. He then served as a regional coordinator for the Presidential campaign of Senator Robert Kennedy and then as campaign manager for John J. Gilligan's unsuccessful campaign for the U.S. Senate. From February 1969 to January 1970, Mr. Shields was Director of Campaigns and Political Organization for the Democratic National Committee and from January to December 1970 served as campaign manager for John J. Gilligan's successful run for Governor of Ohio. Before joining the Muskie campaign, Mr. Shields was Assistant for Federal Relations to Governor Gilligan of Ohio.
