Ian Robert Maxwell has been a Member of Parliament (Labour) for Buckingham since 1964. He is a member of the Council of Europe and Vice-Chairman of its Committee on Science and Technology. A native of Czechoslovakia, Mr. Maxwell served in World War II with the British army, was awarded the military cross, and served in the German Section of the Foreign Office in Berlin after the war ended. Since 1947, Mr. Maxwell has served as chairman and founder of Pergamon Press, in addition to serving as Chairman of the Labour National Fund Raising Foundation from 1960-1969 and Chairman of the working party on Science, Government and Industry from 1963-1964.
